Quite simply because sanitary pads are used in a significantly higher percentage of cases than tampons. So, we have decided to focus our attention here.
Non-organic cotton is the most heavily sprayed crop with toxic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.
The cotton carries the residue of these chemicals, which can be absorbed through the delicate and permeable vaginal tissue.
Organic cotton is grown naturally and without any of these pesticides, so it does not negatively impact your body.
Well first of all our pads are made from 100% organic GOTS certified cotton. Most of our competitors make synthetic pads which do not contain organic cotton. This means we can boast of assisting you to have a healthier period.
Our products are designed to look aesthetically pleasing and are just as absorbent as synthetic pads. So not only are they organic, they are also ultra-thin, possess yogi like flexibility, adhere strongly to your underwear and ensure leak-proof protection.
All elements of our productare fully bio-degradable.
Since our pads are naturally made they will disintegrate completely within one year of being disposed.
The individual sheaths in which our pads are wrapped and, the bag in which they are packed, are made from corn starch. Both the sheaths and bag will fully disintegrate within 180 days.
Even the LuxStore box in which our product is packaged is made from recyclable materials which are also bio-degradable.
Synthetic pads are not made from bio-degradable materials and therefore take between 800 – 1000 years to break down. Even after this time they never completely disappear and live on as micro-plastics polluting our air and water systems!
Well it matters greatly.
Pads that are made from synthetic polymers contain plastics. These pads can cause a number of problems:
1. The plastics contained in synthetic pads are absorbed by your vaginal skin and have the ability to really upset your endocrine, which controls all your hormones.
Why does that matter you ask? Well, the endocrine and the hormones they produce play a vital function in a women's health- her fertility, her moods, her weight, her appearance, her digestive capabilities to name a few.
Disruptions to your hormones may lead to anything from acne to infertility, painful periods and bloating; from diabetes to female cancers such as ovarian, cervical or breast cancers.
2. When you dispose of these pads:
a. In your bin, they end up in a landfill and cantakebetween 800-1000 years to disintegrate.
b. By flushing them down your toilet, then they end up in the ocean front lining our coastline or endangering our marine life. (Please refer to our 'Can I flush my pad?' question in the 'Products' section of our FAQs)
As you can see, cheap doesn't always translate as cheerful.
Most commonly available pads in the market are made from synthetic polymers, which is the chemical name for plastic. Our understanding is that each commonly available synthetic pad has the same amount of plastic as FIVE plastic bags.
Our superabsorbent pads are designed to provide you great absorbency, so there are no leakages or accidents.
For our day pads we recommend that you change your used pad every four hours.
Our night pads have been road tested to provide you overnight comfort, so we recommend them for seven to eight hours of sleep.
Absolutely. Often irritations from pad use are caused by synthetic polymers (plastics), fragrances, rayon, chemically bleached SAP (super absorbent layers) – all the unhealthy parts of a synthetic pad.
LUXStore pads are made from 100% pesticide free, organically grown cotton. This means you can say goodbye to any kind of itching or skin related issues.
Pads flushed in the toilet, end up in our ocean and our water ways, endangering marine life.
So, we would request that you please refrain from flushing our pads.
The correct way to dispose of a used pad is by wrapping it in our biodegradable sheath and depositing it in a bin.
We are an ICEA certified manufacturer of pads which means that the cotton used in our pads is ethically and sustainably sourced from farms in Europe and South East Asia.
Our products are manufactured by a family run firm in Italy.
We are adopting a subscription model, which allows for everyone downstream from us in the supply chain to plan ahead, whether it's the manufacturer awarding the farmer forward contracts or,supporting the small firm that manufactures the bio sheath surrounding our pads.
